Santa Ana, CA (April 8, 2011) –RJ Racing will be competing in their first endurance race of the season at Buttonwillow Raceway Park the weekend of April 9-10, 2011. RJ Racing specializes in the set-up and tuning of racecars for endurance races anywhere from 3-hours to 25-hours in length. Buttonwillow Raceway Park is a highly technical track that favors properly tuned racecars, thus giving RJ Racing an advantage over their competitors. Team co-owner and driver Rob Gibson said, “anyone can buy an expensive engine, but it’s hard to tune a car properly.

Although proper set-up and tuning allows RJ Racing to excel at Buttonwillow Raceway Park, they face several challenges unique to the track.  For instance, the runoff areas are fine silt, which causes impenetrable dust clouds when other drivers leave the track.  The silt also compacts and collects inside wheels causing major drivability issues, so much so that extra pit stops to clean out the chunks of dirt may be necessary. 

Timing is also a concern, as RJ Racing will compete in sprint races during the day with a 3-hour endurance night race following shortly after. This quick change limits the time available for the team to make adjustments for the endurance race. “It is important for us to prepare for track conditions well in advance to prevent any surprise challenges,” said John Gibson, team co-owner and driver.

RJ Racing began their preparations for the Buttonwillow Raceway Park immediately following their season opener at Auto Club Speedway in March 2011. Major preparations for endurance races include pit stop practices, improving methods for fuel economy and efficiency, installing main and auxiliary lights for night races, and racecar set up.
