The Weekend-Racer.com #23 MX-5 finished second in a competitive PTE class. The team started from the third position on the grid but John was into second place by the first turn after the green flag fell.

Over the next three laps he was slowly losing time to the race leading RX-7. But with three laps to go John started making up time on the leader by drafting behind lap traffic. He had been watching the leader during the race to see where he could pass, provided there was an opportunity. An opportunity presented itself when John found himself directly behind the leader with one lap to go – and he was gaining ground. A late breaking move into turn 9 took the team into the lead but there was going to be a drag race to the checkered flag. Unfortunately, the superior horsepower of the RX-7 prevailed by the thinnest of margins. Nonetheless, it was an exciting race for all the fans on hand.
